Spruce Budworm and Jack Pine Budworm Decision Support Systems

BioForest has collaborated with the Canadian Forest Service to develop and deliver Decision Support Systems (DSS) that will provide forest managers with optimized strategies for managing before, during and after major pest outbreaks.  The objective is to reduce losses and optimize wood volumes at the time of harvest.  The Spruce Budworm DSS (SBWDSS) has been implemented in several forest management units in Ontario and Saskatchewan and was used to develop the 2003 aerial spray program in Saskatchewan.  This was the first ever operational implementation of the SBWDSS.
